The EU's "Net Zero Industry Act" will increase the demand for basalt fiber in the wind power industry
On March 16, 2023, the European Commission issued the "Net Zero Industry Act" (NZIA), which proposed the goal of at least 40% of clean energy technologies to be realized in the EU by 2030, including photovoltaics, wind power, batteries/energy storage 8 strategic technologies including heat pump, electrolyzer/fuel cell, sustainable biogas/biomethane, carbon capture and storage, and power grid. To meet NZIA's targets, the wind power industry needs to increase its power generation capacity by at least 20GW, which means an increase in demand for glass fiber by 160,200 tonnes, which is used in the manufacture of blades, nacelles and hubcaps. In fact, the source of these extra glass fibers is important for European compliance.
The European Basalt Fiber Association assesses the impact of NZIA on basalt fiber demand and proposes measures to effectively support the European basalt fiber industry and its value chain compliance.
